the building process

Custom home-building is a complex process, but the outcome is beyond rewarding – a home that perfectly fits your needs. To get there, it takes expertise, persistence, flexibility, and above all, excellent communication between all the parties involved.

Our goal at 757 Building Company is to minimize drama and maximize confident decision-making from beginning to end.

here’s how it works:

Big Decisions, Big Moments

You’re ready to make your next move, and this time, you’re starting from scratch.

Deciding to build a custom home is not just a major decision, it’s a life-changing moment. Our team understands both the excitement and the uncertainty! Your first step might be to choose one of our available floor plans, deciding which one best fits your lifestyle now and in the future.

At the same time, you’ll be finding the perfect plot of land. Whether you already own the land you’re building on, or you’d like help from our team finding a site, we’re here to guide you through these early decisions. We’ll also discuss budget early and often to make sure everything stays on track.

As Hampton Roads natives, we have a special connection to the ground we build on.

Before we can build, the land needs to be surveyed, cleared, prepared and graded. Special consideration must be given to placement of the home on the site, connections to services and utilities, and environmental concerns such as wetlands conservation. We put our experience to work as we navigate these details.

A solid foundation isn’t built in a day.

Breaking ground – a thrilling moment in a homebuilder’s life! Still, after that first shovel touches the dirt, it takes some time to get your home’s foundation in place – and remember we are at the mercy of Hampton Roads weather! While you wait to see your home base take shape, our team consults closely with you on selection of exterior materials and finishes such as roofing, siding, exterior doors, and windows.

The walls go up, the roof goes on, and suddenly you see dreams becoming reality.

Once the construction team builds the frame of your home, we transition from plans on paper to a real-life place we can see and experience! We’ll have an onsite meeting with you to walk through your newly-framed home, and discuss details such as kitchen layout and placement of features and fixtures.

A lot goes on inside the walls of your home, and we want to get things right from the start.

You probably already have a vision of what the inside of your new home will look and feel like. (It’s also possible your spouse/partner has a totally different vision, and that’s okay too.) There are a lot of choices to make when it comes to finishes and fixtures, but fortunately, we’re here to help.

Build on Our Experience

A Few Lessons We've Learned:
Your Eyes Play Tricks on You

It can be hard to look a plan on your computer screen and imagine how it will come to life. When you first see your home’s foundation, you may have a moment of fear thinking your new home is too small – but once you see solid walls and windows, you’ll better understand the space you have to work with!

Weather Permitting

Especially in the first phase of construction, we are often at the mercy of Hampton Roads weather to get the site prepared and foundation poured. Knowing this ahead of time helps us build flexibility into the timeline – and use that time wisely to help you select the features, fixtures and finishes you love.
